Avionic Touchscreen Interaction under Vibration: Supported versus Freehand Target Selection in Cockpit Conditions

نویسندگان

چکیده

With touchscreens being installed in aircraft flight decks, reach-and-turbulence-related challenges arise. Using the ISO 9241-411 multidirectional selection task (a 2D Fitts’ task), we quantified impact of vibration on touchscreen target throughput performance score combining both speed and accuracy) error rate a cockpit layout. 24 participants completed under 2 levels (helicopter level versus static), hand support methods (using thumb, while holding onto screen’s edge, using index finger freehand), 4 types (two avionic two consumer touchscreens), positions (main instrument panel pedestal), sizes (0.8, 1, 1.5 cm). We found average values 6.5 bits per second (bps) static conditions, 5.7 bps vibration, rates 10.3% 16.6% vibration. Similar to prior work, an exponential increase with decreasing size. Larger helped mitigate did not find evidence benefit anchoring touchscreen’s bezel compared freehand baseline, or conditions. Under pedestal outperformed main position, higher lower rate. In performed similarly. This work contributes mitigation when interacting aviation context.

Touchscreen interaction for healthcare applications

Topicus is a provider of healthcare related applications. Currently all applications are developed for use on regular computers with a monitor, keyboard and mouse. My research focussed on the question if it would be feasible to offer both a regular interface as well as a touchscreen interface to the users. This way the application could still be used like it is used today, but new ways of inter...

Vibration analysis of FGM cylindrical shells under various boundary conditions

In this paper, a unified analytical approach is proposed to investigate vibrational behavior of functionally graded shells. Theoretical formulation is established based on Sanders’ thin shell theory. The modal forms are assumed to have the axial dependency in the form of Fourier series whose derivatives are legitimized using Stokes transformation. Material properties are assumed to be graded in...

Soil-Structure Interaction of Buried Pipes Under Cyclic Loading Conditions

The safety of lifelines, as the most important urban facilities, under different conditions highly depends on the safe design and performance of these buried structures. This cannot be achieved unless their actual behaviors are well understood and considered at the designing stage. A new physical model was developed in Amirkabir University of Technology to study the behavior of buried pipes und...

Color Target Localization under Varying Illumination Conditions

In this work we have investigated the use of color descriptors to automatically locate the color target in the scene. Three different local descriptors have been tested. These descriptors are then used to return multiple localization hypotheses and a geometrical and appearance validation are introduced to select the most feasible pose. The experimental results on a public dataset of RAW images ...

Distributed target tracking under realistic network conditions

Distributed target tracking has been a widely studied problem for different applications, more recently considering distributed particle filter techniques for Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). However, the adaptation of distributed tracking filters to sensor networks with limited field-of-view and large raw-data management constraints under realistic networking conditions has not yet received en...
